No, the importer of record and the consignee are not necessarily the same. The consignee is the party to whom the goods are shipped and delivered. While they can be the same entity, especially in simpler transactions, they often serve distinct roles in the importation process.
Who is the importer of record under DDP?
Under Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) terms, the importer of record is the seller. In DDP shipping, the seller is responsible for paying all costs of delivering the goods to the buyer’s location, including duties, taxes, and customs clearance.
